Bet types - Speciality bets
There are far too many speciality bets
on offer to be able to list them all. A great many of
them centre on one specific event and offer some sort
of bonus or particularly attractive offer, usually to
try and generate new business. However, there are a
range of speciality bets that are offered more regularly,
such as the following:
Double Result - This is a bet to predict
who will be leading at the end of the first half (i.e.
the home team, the away team, or a draw) and who will
win the match. Both predictions must be correct to win.
A draw is a valid outcome for both halves.
There are nine possible outcomes (where H = home team,
A = away team, D = draw):
H-H, H-D, H-A, D-H, D-D, D-A, A-H, A-D, A-A
Correct Score - This bet is based
on the actual score of the game at the end of regulation
time. You have to predict the actual score correctly
for your bet to win.
Example line:
Manchester United to win Draw Arsenal to win
1 - 0 6/1 0 - 0 9/2 1 - 0 7/1
2 - 0 7/1 1 - 1 6/1 2 - 0 8/1
2 - 1 7/2 2 - 2 7/1 2 - 1 9/2
All bets are for the full 90 minutes of regulation
time, if a match is tied (1-1, for example) at the end
of 90 minutes, all bets placed on the game to end in
a 1 -1 draw would be winners @ 6/1. All bets on any
other score are losers.
Tournament bets - In a tournament,
a number of participants are all competing to come first
and therefore win the tournament. Competitions, leagues,
races and championships are also classed as tournaments.
In the US, tournaments are known as futures.
Side bets - A bet on the side is a
bet in US sports to predict who will win the game, and
is usually handicapped.
Total - This is a bet to predict whether
the combined score of both teams will go either over
or under the total figure nominated by the oddsmaker.
If the combined final score falls on the total specified,
it is classed as a push, in which case the bet is considered
void, and your stake is refunded.
Runline - This is a bet to predict
which team will score the highest number of runs in
a game of baseball. This bet is handicapped, with the
underdog always given +1.5 points advantage. If the
final score, taking into account the handicap, is a
tie (known as a push), the bet is considered void, and
your stake is refunded.
Ante post betting - Mainly available
in horse racing, ante post bets are wagers on future
events, usually permissible up to the day preceeding
the event.
