Sports betting - Rugby
For rugby, the following bets are normally
permitted:
Single - This is the basic bet on
the outcome of a game or match, i.e. A to win or B to
win. When a price is given for the draw, this is also
a valid bet.
Championship bets - A bet on the outright
winner of the group, championship or series, where a
number of teams are competing to come first.
Handicap bet - This is like a Standard
bet, but the teams are given a handicap to even up the
game for betting purposes, and to avoid the game ending
in a draw. The underdog will be given a head start of
a particular number of points, and the favourite will
be handicapped by the same number of points. If the
favourite has a handicap of -2.5, for example, it must
beat the underdog by three or more points to win the
bet.
Double result - This is a bet on who
will be winning at half time and at full time. It is
one bet, predicting the outcome of both halves of the
game, and both predictions must be correct to win. A
draw is a valid outcome for both halves. There are nine
possible outcomes (where H = home team, A = away team,
D = draw):
H-H, H-D, H-A, D-H, D-D, D-A, A-H, A-D, A-A
First try scorer - This is a bet on
who will score the first try in a match.
Last try scorer - This is a bet on
who will score the last try in a match.
Margin bet - This is a bet on the
number of points (the 'margin') that your selected team
will win by. The points are in groups of five, and you
must correctly predict the winning team plus their margin
for your bet to win.
Multiple bets - A Rugby Multiple bet
involves several different selections of handicap bets
and can be on more than one championship. Each selection
must win for the whole bet to win. The minimum rugby
multiple is 2 teams, and the maximum is 8 teams.
Specials – A range of special
bets may also be available at the bookmaker’s
discretion.
