Bet types - Multiple bets

A multiple bet is a bet involving more than one selection, all of which must be correct for the multiple to win. This type of bet can be known by many different names, depending on the number of selections and the sports involved.

The winnings from one selection are carried forward onto the other, meaning that the potential returns from successful multiple bets can be very large, while the amounts wagered do not need to be very high.

The simplest type of multiple bet is known as a double. A double comprises two selections, both of which must win for the bet to be successful.

To calculate a multiple bet, look up the prices for all of your selections and work out the corresponding payoff figure for each of these prices. Then multiply all of these figures by your stake.

Example multiple bet:
Liverpool home win 1/3
Wolves home win 7/2
Your stake £10

Look up the payoff figures:
Liverpool home win 1/3 1.33
Wolves home win 7/2 4.50

To calculate your winnings, multiply all of these figures with your stake:
1.33 x 4.50 x £10 = £59.85

Your total return on this bet is £59.85

An each-way double works in the same way but it is effectively two separate bets - both need to win for the win part to be successful, both need to be placed for the place section to come to fruition.

The process works in exactly the same way for a treble (three selections) and any other multiples. However, the bets can be made a lot more complicated for two reasons:

A multiple wager can be either win or each-way

This type of bet gives you the opportunity to "hedge" your bets

You can select some of the events within a combination as fixed bankers

Where you have placed a multiple bet with full cover, this means that you bet is hedged in such a way that you still generate some returns even if only one or some of your multiple selections are winners.

Getting into this sort of betting requires larger stakes and a fairly advanced knowledge of what you are doing, so is probably not to be recommended to the novice.
